Portable Power Bank vs. Power Station: How Are They different?

Introduction

There is a vast difference between a power bank and a power station. Many of you might get confused, or many may be unaware of the difference, and you tend to use the wrong term for the wrong product. Some people confuse a power station with a house inverter, which is also a power supply backup but in a different category.

So to clear off doubts and confusion, this blog will enlighten you how a power bank is different from a power station. We will also talk about their similarities so that when you purchase one, you can choose the correct power supply as per your requirements.

So let’s start with the similarities b/w Power Bank & Power Station

First, to start out with, both are portable power backups and can be carried anywhere and everywhere.

They have multiple charging ports and can charge any and every device, as they are compatible with all your gadgets.

Now let’s come down to the difference between a Power Bank and A Power station-

What is a Power Station?

Power Stations have rechargeable batteries through which they can supply electricity to devices. They are similar to power banks but feature more capacity, power output, and AC (wall) sockets, enabling them to charge a variety of gadgets that include smartphones, outdoor equipment, computers, and household appliances. Larger capacity power stations can be used as backup power for homes during blackouts, while lighter models are ideal Power banks for camping.

They are also compatible with devices that are usually plugged into a wall or car socket. This is why they can generate more power and have the Battery pack capacity to operate appliances for longer. They have a bigger portable battery that can power projectors and other electronics.

What is a Power Bank?

A Power Bank is an electric source that has the capability to charge gadgets like smartphones, smartwatches, wireless earphones, laptops, and other small portable devices. They are ideal laptop power banks that do not stop your work, especially when you are travelling. Power Banks can be charged by solar panels, wall sockets, and car cigar ports.

They are also compatible with devices that are usually plugged into a wall or car socket. This is why they can generate more power and have the Battery pack capacity to operate appliances for longer. They have a bigger portable battery that can power projectors and other electronics.

The Key Differences Between Power Bank Vs Power Station

The difference in weight

Power banks are lighter than a power station as the battery capacity in a power bank is less, hence there will be a difference in weight.

Output power supply

The electric output of a power bank is lower compared to that of a power station, as it is a smaller device that has USB ports to charge devices. On the contrary, a power station is more powerful and has AC & DC sockets, and a portable battery bank has a significantly lower watt level than a power station. For example, a 600 watt output power station has the capacity to supply power to a mini refrigerator.

High-capacity power bank

Power bank’s capacities range between 10-30 thousand mAh while the capacity of a power station is 50,000 mAh and higher.

Ways to charge

Usually, power banks recharge via a USB connection, which must be connected to an adaptor and put into a wall socket outlet, but power stations can be charged as well by using portable solar panels apart from a wall plug.

Types of output ports

Their output ports are what distinguish these two units of power source from each other. Since a power station has a high capacity of mAh, it has the ability to source high-wattage gadgets or appliances. Hence, it enables you to use/charge gadgets like your hand blender, medical appliances, cameras, projector, TV, computer, and more.

So it has AC & DC sockets and type C and USB ports, too. While a power bank does not have sockets, its mAh capacity is much lower and does not support high-wattage appliances. It has regular type-C and USB ports, and nowadays Wireless power bank is available too.

Conclusion

So now that you are aware of the difference between a power bank vs. a power station, you can choose which power source device you would like to use that will best serve your need for a power backup.
